At The Healthy Peach Physio, their specialist team strives for pelvic floor health and happiness for all their patients. Led by founder Marnie Poiner, they help with assessing your pelvic floor, educating you on what’s ‘really going on’ and giving you management techniques to help. They can also work collaboratively with your gynaecologist, GP, psychologist, partner and little ones to create the best possible outcome for you. They are confident that through their treatment options and referral network, they will help you to reach your health goals. Here Marnie talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the inspiration behind her business, the personal challenges she has overcome along the way, and her hopes and dreams for the future.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
I had a vision of creating the kind of women-centered health care that made you feel safe and supported the moment you walked through the door. Pelvic health issues can be daunting and uncomfortable to discuss. With family, friends, and health care providers. I feel passionately about breaking the stigma around pelvic and sexual health. The more knowledge we have about our own bodies, the more choices we have in how we chose to live in them. Any conversation you want to have, we’re happy to have with you.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
My career started in sports and musculoskeletal physio. They don’t teach pelvic health in your physio undergrad at university; we get a 6-week crash course and that’s it! After graduating and getting the hang of being a physio, I quickly upskilled in pelvic health and fell in love with the area. After 4 years of working for someone else, and quickly realising my work values didn’t match the company I worked for, I decided to create my vision. I started off renting rooms in other fabulous clinics and slowly built up my team until we needed a space of our own to call home.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
I decided that to be the best clinician and mentor possible, I needed to upskill even further. I completed my Master of Science in Medicine (Sexual and Reproductive Health) and expanded my role into sexual health counselling. Joining physio and sex therapy is such a powerful combination of therapeutic interventions and I found myself getting too busy to be a one-man-show and expanded my team.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
The dance of home life and work life is something I’ll be ever working on, I think. My husband and I welcomed our first child in 2023, and I think that really helped create division and space for when I have my business or clinician hat on, and when I have my Mumma or family hat on. I definitely have moments where I think, “Will I ever get everything I need to get done, finished?”. But I have the unconditional support of my husband and he always makes sure the balance stays in check. Plus, he does all the cooking! Nobody wants my cooking, haha!
