Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
I’ve set up a work schedule that allows me to offer flexible times for my clients but that also allows me to still have a healthy balance of time with my family, especially while my youngest daughter is still under two. I try to keep myself in check and know that things are always changing and evolving, so to focus on the now, and work within that. It also helps working from home as I can fit a lot more things in when I’m not having to commute!
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
The biggest challenge I have overcome more than once is kindness, patience and respect to my own body and healing journey. This in turn has taught me the most in my work when working with others too. I wasn’t the strongest apprentice in the beginning when doing my training as I had a lot going on within my body at the time, but it taught me to slow down and understand the process, working with someone’s foundations and listening to the body. I also developed a good eye when watching others move. I faced this again after the birth of my daughters. It’s not always about how we look on the outside but how we feel on the inside. To others I might have looked reasonably fit, but it took time and a great deal of patience to rebuild myself internally after this second baby. Carrying a child within and then on the outside straight after does not do wonders for your posture and is usually the last thing we are thinking about too!
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros are the ability to work within a schedule that fits your needs and the needs of your family and to also have your own individual mark on something that’s important to you. The downside is the financial worry that comes with having your own business, and the extra effort it takes to put yourself out there. But I am learning through it all and appreciating the ebbs and flows.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
For now, I am looking forward to meeting and working with more clients that come through the door and I have some interesting workshops and continuing education seminars coming up this year which are always inspiring and educational. I am also really interested in mental health and spiritual growth, as a firm believer in the mind/body/spirit connection, so hope to collaborate more with other likeminded practitioners and educators in the wellness industry. Pretty happy enjoying and appreciating where I am in this present moment though.
