When pregnant with her first child, Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach and Chakra Healer Tiare Gras realised there was a lack of information on how to exercise safely during and after pregnancy, so she set out to educate herself. She became passionate about helping other mums through pregnancy and beyond to achieve optimum health, confidence, peace, and fulfilment in their lives and launched her business, Peach Babe. Through a combination of good nutrition, core-focused movement and some chakra healing, she has created an innovative way of helping mums achieve their health and fitness goals.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
I have been a personal trainer for nearly 10 years. Before getting pregnant, I didn’t have a lot of knowledge about how to train during pregnancy and after. When I finally became pregnant with my first child, I realised there was very little information on how to exercise properly during and after pregnancy. I realised then that this was my new mission. I needed to get educated so I could help other women to stay healthy and fit during pregnancy and get back into exercise without any injuries afterwards.
I have helped countless mums now in the last 5 years of focusing on pre- and post-natal women and I absolutely love it! Many of my pregnant clients return to exercise with little or no separation and even after multiple children. I also get mums who have come to me with multiple issues from childbirth and with my help they get back to feeling like themselves and doing the exercises they love. It’s so incredibly rewarding.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
I have been a trainer for nearly 10 years but have moved into the online space recently to be able to help more women. I started doing free challenges and I had so many women absolutely love them that I am opening up an online fitness membership just for mums. Although exercise is important, we also focus on mindset, our relationship with food (I love incorporating body positive ideas into my nutrition coaching), meditation, and stress relief. My workouts are never boring either. I am a group fitness instructor so I include dancing, low impact cardio, weights, Pilates and by the end of the year will also be incorporating yoga as well.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
The biggest breakthrough has probably been on a personal level. Although I have always excelled in one-on-one, in-person training, going into the online space was a bit daunting. It’s easy to get caught up in insecurities when you are going to be in front of a large audience all at once. I think my own insecurities about my body really prevented me from taking a step forward. What I realised is that it’s not about ME; it’s about the beautiful mums I am helping. I realised I needed to take a stand against the intense pressure most women feel to get back to their pre- baby body.
I am just a normal mum, I had two c-sections and had to recover. I gained weight and never lose all of it while I am breastfeeding. I had very little help from family or friends because of distance and lockdowns. I am in the same boat as everyone else and my message now is this: IT’S OK! Wherever you are in your journey, I am sure you are doing your absolute best.
Motherhood can be hard! It can be hard to focus on yourself and it’s totally ok if you haven’t lost the baby weight. Let’s just focus on being healthy and putting on our oxygen mask before we try and put on our children’s. It’s so important for us to focus on ourselves and practise self-care first. It does not have to be attached to a weight or size.
