Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

Personal training can be very challenging with the usual early morning and late-night hours and raising a family. Since going online, I can balance my workload in the gym with helping clients online and it helps a lot! I never start work before 10am so I can do the kindy drop off and always pick up my girls before I start the dinner so we have some good family time at the end of the day. I also only work Monday to Thursday so we have a solid 3 days to really spend with each other.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Raising my two girls and staying sane! It can be quite challenging going from my personal training job where I was mentoring other PTs’ training from 5am to 8pm and interacting all day with adults to being a stay-at-home mum with my 2 beautiful babies in a tiny apartment during lockdown. Although I loved the days I was spending with my little ones, it was also very challenging and it sometimes feels like going back to work has been easier.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The big pro of running your own business is that you are in complete control of your schedule. You can take as much time off as you may need and you can plan holidays when you want to. I think the biggest con of running your own business is that there is a HUGE learning curve. You need to start everything from scratch and there is a lot of trial and error to what works and what doesn’t.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

My biggest dream is to do some retreats for mums in Hawaii. I’d love to have a few weeks a year where mums can have a break, learn how to exercise properly and eat delicious food and meet other mums. I love the idea of community, especially after such an isolating year we all had last year. Community is so important when you are going through the most challenging yet rewarding phase of life. I’m hoping to achieve this dream in the next few years so stay tuned!
