The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Our biggest challenge is almost cliché and nearly derailed us. We grew so fast in the first six months that we didn’t have the correct processes in place to keep up with demand. We regularly ran out of stock of some items, which frustrated customers. We had to work very hard to resolve and regain the confidence of our customers.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Working from home and being able to adapt work life around family are definitely some of the biggest benefits. The flexibility we now have to move our working time to take care of our family is exactly what we had hoped for and brings greater contentment. Like any venture though, these advantages come with their own set of challenges; the line between home and business will blur very quickly if you drop your guard, and frequently being stretched out of your comfort zone can initially be quite unsettling.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
We are adding new products to our range, and expanding into homewares is our next step in NZ. We continue to research how we can minimise our waste through natural, recycled and recyclable materials.
Most exciting though, we are working on expanding across the pond to cater for our growing number of Australian customers. It’s a little scary, but if we’ve learnt anything from the past, you just never know until you try!
