With a goal to reduce waste and help the environment, it was always Monique Gravatt’s intention to use cloth nappies when her baby was born. With Yoho & Co, she was able to create a business that she believed in and was passionate about, while producing beautifully designed cloth nappies for other parents and their babies. Here she talks about launching her business.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
I always knew I wanted to use reusable nappies on my baby and, leading up to his birth, my husband and I were thinking of starting a business. Reusable nappies were in line with our goals of reducing waste in our household. Fast forward two months – I had a 4-week-old baby and was going stir crazy at home – and we decided to bite the bullet!
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
The beginning was hard and slow. We focused on social media and building that up. Mentally it was challenging. Have I put all of this time, money and effort into this for nothing? Is it going to work? You doubt yourself on a daily basis at the start! It really was an emotional rollercoaster!
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
The biggest breakthrough was when we started having people post about our nappies on a daily basis. The comments and messages about how much people were loving our nappies just made me sigh in relief! That’s when you know that it’s going to work out!
