Having struggled herself with sleep deprivation when her first daughter was born, who suffered with colic and silent reflux, Lacey Lubbers decided she wanted to help other parents. As a natural and nurturing sleep specialist, it is her focus to ensure families feel less alone and more aligned in parenthood. She is here to tell you that you can enjoy motherhood with the tools and support to navigate sleep. Here she talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the inspiration behind Snooze & Co, the pros and cons of running her own business, and her hopes and dreams for the future.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
Having my first daughter in 2016, I had no support around. My family and friends all lived over a one-hour drive away and my husband worked FIFO. It was just me and my new baby. She suffered with colic and silent reflux. Leaving the house gave me such anxiety and the crying would start from the moment she opened her eyes to when she finally exhausted herself back to sleep again. The newborn bubble was not what I had envisioned. This is my biggest why for helping support new families through the adjustment of becoming parents for the first or fourth time.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
It was just me in my little home office. That very first booking I received in 2017 was the most nerve wracking in-home consultation. Over the years, I’ve expanded to self guides, tailored packages and support done differently.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
My biggest breakthrough was being invited to be a guest speaker at a mothers’ group each term with over 250 new mamas.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Over the years, I finally found a really nice balance: two days a week are my office days, one day a week is my in-home bookings and if I want to help out at my daughter’s tuckshop, I can, which I also absolutely love.
