My favourite ways to balance my work and family include:
- Going for a walk in the evening together to chat about our day.
- Involve my daughter with my work when I can.
- We will always have one morning or afternoon in the week where we will bake and watch a movie together.
- We are very mindful of what we eat and having limits on devices, especially when we are in each other’s company so we can really connect.
- Spend a few minutes in the morning or bedtime to meditate together.
- Drive out and be by the water or up to the mountains for a drive whenever we have the chance to have a break away to be in nature.
- Regularly meditate and doing healing work for myself and family.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I think finding our voice in the natural skincare space has been one of our key challenges when we first started and it has taken some time to establish that.
From the simple and humble desire to create nourishing, vegan bath and body products for families to formulating a high-vibrational and holistic skincare range for mamas, we have evolved with it organically and learnt so much along the way.
One of our other challenges was growing the business and driving it in the direction we wanted it to within a modest budget, as our business started towards the end of Covid. However, as we are uncompromising with sourcing premium and organic oils, it has taken a long time for us to find the right people along the way to help us bring our products to life in the way we have envisioned it.
Prior to starting Mylk & Butter.Co, I was classically trained as a pianist, so I’ve enjoyed learning many different skillsets to effectively manage all aspects of the business. It has been a huge but exciting rollercoaster ride, from searching for the right suppliers for our beautiful oils to countless trialling and refining our product formulations, as well as designing and running the backend of our business.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I love researching, learning and creating. The passion behind creating a holistic and high-vibrational skincare range to support mamas and their little ones has always been at the heart and soul of our brand and there is still so much I want to be able to do through our work.
I also feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to spend 2 and a half years creating Mylk & Butter.Co together with Emily. I often find my inspiration through working with her, from the people we connect with and Ayurveda. Being able to create nourishing, multi-functional and luxurious products that bring love and joy to so many women as well as connecting with some amazing people in our beautiful community has been incredibly rewarding. Seeing people fall in love with our products and sharing their experiences with us is definitely one of the highlights as well!
The downside of running my own business is finding time to take a break when I need to and being with my family more.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I look forward to expanding our reach with like-minded businesses across various states in the next 12 months and offering holistic services to support women in their pregnancy journey and beyond.
It will be a really exciting step for us to be able to integrate everything we do to empower women to experience deeper, more soulful nourishment.
