The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Once I had done my drawings on paper, I had to scan them on to our computer and learn how to use a whole new software program called Illustrator. My husband was already excellent at using it, however it took me a while to get my head around it all.
Another challenge was to work out how we were going to sustainably package our product with recyclable materials. It’s easy to package in plastic but we choose to do research and find an alternative.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Pros are definitely being able to be flexible – especially with my kids. You can create your own deadlines, be your own boss, manage your own finances etc.
Cons are having the limitations of your own finances, potentially working longer hours, and having a fluctuating income.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
We plan to expand our range of books and I am currently working on my next one so watch this space.
