The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I’ve had a lot of things happen to me in my adolescence, more than what some people encounter over their entire lifetime, but I realised that all of that stuff happened for a reason and happened for me to enable me to help others. In this last year alone, I’ve had to encounter medical menopause and then a hysterectomy at the age a lot of my friends are still having babies. If that hadn’t happened to me, I wouldn’t be where I am now, doing what I love.
Business wise, I am able to tackle a lot of it logically. I’m well aware that I’m dealing with people’s lives and emotions and the things they tell me are confidential and can be quite vulnerable in sharing. So confidentiality and permission are extremely important for me to make sure that the women I work with feel safe to tell me the information they share.
For Better or Worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros are the freedom of being able to work where I like; being able to listen to my own music; not having to ask permission to have the summer off; being able to have the right people around me; helping others to be more confident in their own lives; and having a genuine impact on others.
As for cons, having to make my own cups of tea, for one! Also, distractions! There are always house jobs to do, school stuff to sort and things that I could be doing. But I have to lead from the front and show how things can be done, so I’ve got to get on and do them.
Hopes and Dreams: What next?
I plan to do more of the same: help as many women as possible, keep learning and progressing, and I’d love to do a retreat in 2025.
