Wanting to rid harmful chemical from her home, Sarah Tuckfield the founder of Petit Pois Boutique has created a one-stop-shop for all things baby and kids that was non-toxic, ethically made, eco-conscious. She wants to make it easy for other like-minded parents to have access to these types of products.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
I have always had sensitive skin, which significantly worsened as I got older. When planning for a family, I found out I had Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. After some research, I started a journey to eliminate as many things from my home that contained harsh chemicals. These are known (and unfortunately a lot yet to be known) to cause skin sensitivities and other ongoing medical issues. Once I had my daughter, I did not want to expose her to products that were going to pose a threat to her health, or that could potentially harm her. I also wanted to leave a planet for her that she could enjoy with her children and grandchildren to the beauty we see today. My vision was a one-stop-shop for all things baby and kids that was non-toxic, ethically made, eco-conscious. I wanted to make it easy for other like-minded parents to have access to these types of products.
While on maternity leave, once I had completed my Surface Design studies, I found a desire to design fabrics and products for babies and children. I was conscious that they were ethically made and had no harsh chemicals during the manufacturing process. Also, I wanted to have products made by valued people, who were looked after by their employees. Here is where my journey continues.
The Launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
I started by finding businesses and products that resonated with me and that I felt would compliment my values. I wanted to work with like-minded people who value their health, their family’s health, the environment and the lives of others.
