Two Soul Mama with over 25 years of yoga experience, share their passion for empowering other mothers to apply yogic skills within their daily routine. Soul Mama offers yoga, mindfulness and coaching in-person and online so that all mums can get the nourishment they deserve in order to flourish for themselves, their family and for their communities.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
We are mums and yoga teachers. We have witnessed the power of a mother’s love within us and around us in our mums’ group. We have also seen the power of yoga applied in our everyday lives (with our combined 25 years of practice). We have experienced the challenges and unrealistic demands on the mother’s role in our western society. We realised how ancient yogic skills of yoga and mindfulness had helped us significantly on our path. We understand how difficult it is for a mother to attend a yoga class or keep a meditation practice. So, we developed tools and techniques which progressively help blend and apply those yogic skills amongst the daily routines. This then gradually empowers mothers from within, working on their perspectives and inner journey and allow their love to flourish and spill out to the family and community around. We believe the world needs mothers that thrive and express themselves in the world while enjoying the magical journey of motherhood. We are passionate about bringing balance and harmony to their lives with applied yoga, mindfulness and coaching.
The Launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
Stef and I met through our passion and love for movement and acroyoga. We first connected as friends and colleagues and realised soon we were on a similar path in life as mothers, yoga teachers and bodyworkers. What brought us together, though, are the similar views and passion around sharing our yogic skills and understandings to empower mums. We spoke about the topic for a couple of years and then eventually we decided to bring our vision into action.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
When we realised share that we could share our services online to reach as many mothers as possible, we then started to work on our online programmes. This is very exciting and will enrich the lives of many mothers who felt cut out from any yoga or mindfulness practices as there are not enough hours in the day. With our online programmes, we can work side by side with mums bringing high-quality coaching and the wisdom of applying yoga right into the daily routines. The knowledge and wisdom can then be further integrated and will enhance the experience at our retreats.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
The balance between work and family is an ongoing practice, as demands and needs shift from one moment to another. It is highly valuable for us to find lots of little moments through the day to stop. This practice “allows the mud to settle, and the water to become clear” so that we can regain perspective and clarity on priorities. We have a general plan of action which we work on weekly. We have learned through motherhood to be flexible in our relationship to it, to be gentle towards ourselves and considerate towards our capacity.
