The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
My biggest challenge has been investing in myself. It took a while to reach the point where I valued the knowledge and experience I’d gained and could confidently turn it into a business. Car seats are complicated and we have such a huge range available in New Zealand; it’s impossible to know everything about all of them. I’m constantly learning as new seats come on the market or I see someone who has done something different that I can try. Being open to learning and growing, but confident in my ability to navigate change has been really positive.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The biggest pro is that I get to see parents empowered and confident that they’ve made an educated choice with their car seat, they know how to use it, and their child is safe. Connecting with other parents and being able to help them is fantastic. Plus, baby cuddles are the best!
The hardest part is all the admin that goes into those appointments. Continuous training, accounting, marketing, budgeting, and scheduling takes up far more time than what I get to spend doing the helping side of things. All worth it though!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I would love to expand my network to reach more pregnant parents – both to grow my business and to get more car seat education out there. I truly believe when you know better, you do better!
