There is so much guilt and questioning of ourselves as parents; wondering if we are doing the right thing by our children.
The mental health of parents is something that is just now beginning to come to the fore in our conversations. Often overlooked, a parent’s mental health has a huge impact on how they manage as a parent.
“It wasn’t until I had become a mum myself, that I truly understood how hard it is to be a parent,” Szabo says. “There is so much guilt and questioning of ourselves as parents; wondering if we are doing the right thing by our children. Parents often find themselves isolated and sleep-deprived. This can flow onto their mental health. Mental health plays a major role in how we manage parenthood, and many have experienced concerns with their mental health. Without our community or our tribe for support, these days it becomes even more of a challenge of how and where to go for support.”
Fostering positive and secure attachment with your baby is such an important thing for your baby’s development. Kylie Szabo recognises this, so at Ksparentss you can learn about infant massage. “As I learnt about attachment and bonding,” Szabo says, “I also learnt the importance of positive touch and how infant massage can have a positive effect on a child’s attachment to their parent, as well as vice versa.”
Kylie really loves working with families and providing them with the support that she knows she needed as a first-time mum. Ksparentss is a place parents can go and not feel embarrassed or guilty (or anything else other than human!) for feeling how they feel, because being a parent isn’t easy.
