The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
One of the main pillars of emotional health is seeing challenges as opportunities and then knowing what to do with them. I embody this! So with curiosity leading the way, I have looked at my challenges as a way to design my business around the life I want. For example, scrolling on social media doesn’t ignite my soul at all, but for business, having a presence on social media is important. So it made me look at hiring a VA who loves this type of work. A win-win for both of us.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Part of my own healing journey was to experience more freedom – freedom from the old stories that were getting in the way of me thriving as a mother and freedom from the stored emotions that were having me show up angry and frustrated.
By running my own business, my goals for more freedom have transferred across from my inner work into my external work. I work the hours that suit my family so I have the energy and time to illustrate what emotional health looks like to my children. I’m able to be present, fun and connected with my kids as they grow. It can be a slippery slope as a business owner if I don’t respect my own time and energy boundaries.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I know too well the stigma around sharing your vulnerabilities or coming across as ’emotional’ or ‘damaged goods’ in a culture that upholds expectations around hustle, working mum life and childhood trauma.
I also know the value in connection. So I am hoping to collaborate with other like-minded educators and mentors to help challenge these beliefs so we can start to openly honour ourselves as the emotional beings that we are.
