Healing Postnatally Through Pilates

Womb Warriors Tribe

It was her work as a Pilates teacher that made Jaspreet Kaur realise the lack of support for women postnatally. There seemed to be a focus on losing ‘baby weight’, but not so much on helping women regain their pelvic floor and deep core strength. It was this lack of support and knowledge, along with her own experiences, that led her to create Womb Warriors Tribe. She now works as a postpartum corrective exercise specialist and reiki healer alongside her Pilates teaching, and she is passion about helping women on their healing journeys. Here she talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the inspiration behind Womb Warriors Tribe, the challenges she has overcome, and her hopes and dreams for the future.

The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?

A friend of mine actually asked me to teach her Pilates one day just out of the blue. I had done my personal training qualifications and I had been going to Pilates sessions myself for years. So I told her I could teach her what I knew but we can’t call it Pilates. She enjoyed our sessions and told a few people, who told a few more people and before I knew it, I was running “Pilates inspired fitness sessions” in my garage! My clients were enjoying the sessions, I was getting great feedback and my business grew within weeks. Seeing how much these sessions were helping these women, I knew I had to learn more, get qualified and start doing this seriously. I did my Pilates teacher training and there has been no looking back since then!

The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?

The business just grew from word of mouth. As I completed my qualifications, I started to get more equipment and eventually bought my reformers – all of this out of my garage.

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

After the first couple of years working with women to strengthen their core, I saw a very clear pattern. Women had no help or guidance on rehabilitating their pelvic floor and core muscles after pregnancy and childbirth and this was affecting them years later. They were living with ongoing lower back pain, pelvic floor weakness and tight neck and shoulders as a result of their weakened core. This started my quest to dig deeper and learn more about the pelvic floor, especially in relation to post pregnancy and childbirth. Today I am a postpartum corrective exercise specialist, a reiki healer doing womb space healings and of course a Pilates teacher helping women get stronger from the inside out!

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

I schedule client sessions during school hours and I do all my admin and behind-the-scenes stuff after school pick ups and in the evenings. This way I am available for my children and give my clients my 100% when I’m with them. Being 12 and 10 years old now, my children help me with the back end of the business, especially the IT part. They are so much more tech savvy than I am!
