Helping Parents Nurture Healthy Sleep Habits for Their Babies & Toddlers

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

Shortly after getting my website at its final draft stage, I was introduced to “The Sleep Coach Society”, which is a coaching program for a new wave of sleep consultants. This was and still is the game changer that gave me the confidence to believe I could make this a successful business. Without these amazing ladies, I’m certain Sleep Wee Bird would still be a dream waiting to happen.

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

I’m still trying to figure this out! But working for myself has really given me the freedom to set my own schedule so that I have my dedicated days for work and still spend quality time with my daughters. I try to keep my minute tasks for my non-working days so I can get to them when my girls nap. My eldest is almost ready to drop her nap though so I’m really not sure what I’ll do when that happens!

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

There are days where everything does feel too hard to keep going with all the admin, social media and everything else that is needed to run a small business. However, when I hear the joy in a parent’s voice after hitting the first milestone towards their child’s sleep, this is what makes it worthwhile! I honestly light up when I hear that a baby who woke several times and needed to be rocked for every wake, now only woke once and just needed a quick feed. I honestly do a happy dance for every parent that starts to see progress like this!

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The pros come with being your own boss, managing your own time and staying true to your own values. This is such a personal service and to support families in a way that feels natural to me, I need to be able to apply my own style of approach. I don’t think I could do this as well working for someone else.

The Cons: my brain is in constant overdrive. From the moment I wake to the second my head hits the pillow, I’m thinking of ways to develop my business and constantly upskill myself to ensure I can offer the best service to all my clients. While I love growing and getting to utilise the creative side of my brain, at times it does take over and I wish I could just hit pause and enjoy being in the moment when with my family.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

Currently, I’m exploring more courses to enhance my knowledge in supporting mums and newborns across all things post-partum. As well as this, I’ve begun the process to become a trainee breastfeeding counsellor. So many mums have wanted to breastfeed and feel guilty if they haven’t been successful. While I fully support everyone’s right to feed their baby in whatever way is right for them, I also know many mums who want to breastfeed stop, simply because the support hasn’t been available. I want to be there to offer that support.
