Hey Pregnant Mama: you’re NOT as prepared as you think you are for what comes next

Five tips to prepare for postpartum with your baby

While it’s unfortunately true that babies don’t come with an instruction manual, there are thankfully some things we can do to get ready for their arrival BEFORE we even give birth.

Here are FIVE things I would recommend all expectant parents do in their second and third trimesters to be as prepared as possible and minimise that feeling of stress and overwhelm:

  1. Create a postpartum caddy: Fill it with products to support pain and healing, e.g. Peri Foam, Partum Panties/Pads, Peri Bottle, etc.
  2. Read up on the infamous second night: The second night with your baby involves a lot of cluster feeding and next to zero sleep. If possible, prepare to have your partner/support person stay with you in hospital/home on the second night so that you can tag team.
  3. Connect with a Lactation Consultant: YES, before baby arrives! Having someone who you can call who knows you and your goals is important. It saves time and stress trying to find the right person once issues start occurring.
  4. Plan your meals: load your freezer with home-cooked meals (asked loved ones to help prepare some too), or subscribe to a meal delivery service to support you in postpartum. It’s so important you eat well, but cooking can be hard in those first weeks.
  5. Take a prenatal class: not just one that covers the birth, but one that educates you on what happens AFTER baby arrives. The FREE Mama Linc Prenatal Masterclass teaches you about how to set the foundation for successful breastfeeding and bottle feeding, what to expect in hospital after birth, what to expect on that infamous second night, the truth about your newborn’s sleep and much more.

While it’s unfortunately true that babies don’t come with an instruction manual, there are thankfully some things we can do to get ready for their arrival BEFORE we even give birth.

The Mama Linc App also offers a FREE 7 DAY TRIAL for new and pregnant parents – covering everything they need to know about their new baby. I spent five years developing Mama Linc after my own postpartum struggles, as I quickly realised how bombarded new parents can feel with new information. It can be hard to know what to trust, and when you need help, and it can be hard to access both financially and logistically.

Mama Linc solves this by putting everything you need to know in ONE place. At the tap of a button, you can gain access to tools, tips, knowledge and advice from trusted experts, helping you to feel confident and comfortable ahead of (and throughout) your parenthood journey.
