The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
One of the biggest challenges I have had is having to hold back. I constantly have so many ideas of what I’d like to do with my business but to maintain my work and family balance, I have needed to hold back a bit. Using social media as a means to advertise and reach people has been a huge challenge also. Creating reels and posts can take up so much time but I made sure to use automation software so I am not on my phone constantly. There are also periods of slow business and this is very normal for any goods-based business. So, I always try focus on WHY I am doing this. I do it because I love creating special memories on tangible jewellery items for people.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Honestly, I love having my own business. I don’t let it control me. I love that I have the free time to take breaks, to be with my children and go on holiday. The cons would be the unknown. I can’t always predict what sales will do through the year and this can be tough. At times, I don’t know if I am going to make enough to keep going. I wouldn’t have it any other way though. I love being my own boss!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I just recently launched into the Australian market and this has been a goal of mine for a while. I would love to see my small business grow to maybe employ some incredible mums to help with stamping, making and packing orders. I will always be 100% involved in my business but I’d love to provide work for some mothers that were in the same boat as me. I’d love to continue creating a community where mothers can share their story with each other and I can create pieces that reflect each individual story. I want to keep connecting and creating in the years to come.
