How to Help a Crying Baby

WHITE NOISE – Always works!

IS SHE/HE ILL? – You know your own baby the best and if you feel the crying is different, going on through the night and day and he seems out of sorts, not feeding, no wet nappies, then you must seek medical help

SENSITIVE BABIES – Some babies are generally fussier than others, as long as they are sleeping enough, having plenty of dirty nappies, healthy and keen to feed, then they will hopefully grow out of this.

IS SHE/HE TOO TIRED? – Babies can only take a certain amount of stimulation, so make sure they never get to the stage where they are ‘overloaded’. Make sure you have plenty of quiet times during the day so they can chill.

CHECK NAPPY – Sometimes they may not have a dirty nappy but it’s moved and is rubbing on them.

HEAD OUTDOORS – Get a change of scene and fresh air – it can work wonders.

TRY MASSAGE – This doesn’t always work if they are super overtired but you can even gently stroke their arms, face, legs or back. Having spent time with over 2,000 babies over the last decade, I have yet to meet a baby who doesn’t love a massage!

THIRD EYE – Try stroking down the middle of the eye, especially if a baby is fighting sleep – it’s like magic.

ROCK – Rock and rock and move!! Babies love movement and this should stop crying instantly.

CARRY – Babies ALWAYS calm when they are carried. We are a carrying species and are hard wired to be this way.

WHEN TO WORRY – If your baby is crying more than 50% of the day, during feeds, just after a feed or when sleeping, then you must see a doctor

I hope these help and remember that you are AMAZING. Trust yourself and be proud of bringing up a little person.
