We asked Bonnie at Lilly at Dawn Photography to take these pictures at our home of our Mia to celebrate her first birthday.
For most first-time parents, when their babies turn one you hear them say, ‘Gosh where did that year go?’ They recount sleepless nights and joke about stinky nappy changes. For us, Mia’s birthday is not only a celebration of her first year of life and surviving as first-time parents, but also surviving the seven years on the fertility rollercoaster it took us to have her.
Mia – our star of the sea, a little person so full of personality and cheek like she has been here before, a little being doctors said would not happen naturally.
She is our greatest gift: after a miscarriage, seven rounds of unsuccessful IVF, countless fertility tests and treatments, vitamins, and natural therapies.
We gave up on the idea of a ‘Mia’ just before she came about. The amount of pressure we had put on ourselves and each other was overwhelming.
