The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Financial is a huge one. When creating a business, you use your money that would have usually been used for something else, so spending it on a “hope this works” is a challenge to talk yourself through.
Another challenge has been to believe in yourself, which is a stranger one for me. As a sales rep, I have gone from doing something I was really good at and got a thrill from, to being really conservative about my own business. I was listening to a guest speaker when I was studying e-commerce and she was talking about self-doubt and fear and said sometimes it’s not fear of failure, but fear of success. This strongly resonated with me so much.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
There is a different kind of pride when you receive feedback on something you have created, though if anything is wrong, it is also 100% on you to remedy. There is no passing it on to the owner because the owner is you. Time in your own business is underpaid but also underrated when it runs on love for what you do.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My dream is to have my products on more shelves in selected stores and to be able to move to full time on my own business.
