Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
That is easier said than done. We all search for that balance and I can honestly say that there are days or weeks that it is achievable and there are times that life just happens and I find myself rushing with deadlines, to get lunches done, children in the car, matching socks… What can I say? We are all human and guilty of biting off more than we can chew or procrastinating a little.
What has really helped me to achieve some balance was learning to say NO and not feeling guilty about it, as well as making peace with the mess around me. My house does not need to be a Pinterest picture! If I can close the door or the drawer, it is good enough for me.
Once I had a friend come to visit me when I had my two little toddlers running around and their two little cousins playing at home. It was a royal mess! I shyly apologised for the noise and the mess and she said something that made me feel so much better about myself.
“It is alright, I can see happiness is happening here.” I realised there and then that my children won’t remember how clean my house was …they will remember how happy it was!
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
As a mother, I had to overcome my own perceptions, to learn to set standards that I could achieve, learn to count on others, to ask for help, to make peace with bad hair days and a messy house. The more I took me time, I realised that the biggest barrier in having that time aside it was ME. I felt guilty asking for help. I felt that I wasn’t a good mum because I needed some down time to myself…But the truth was I needed to overcome myself.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I can find myself at times being so busy promoting Me Time I run out of ME TIME for myself 🙂
Finding a balance is something that I have to remember myself every day. What can be done today and what could be done later…focus on what I can achieve so planning is a must.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My call is to empower as many mums as possible to get this message across the globe. I want me time to be a topic of discussion as much as postnatal depression, breastfeeding and natural birth.
