Abby Jayona is passionate about bringing together trusted motherhood essentials to look after both mum and baby, so she jumped at the opportunity to take over Milky Life, a wonderful online business founded by a fellow mum. The goal was simple: to support the beautiful journey of motherhood through functional, versatile and sustainable gifts and products. Every item is chosen with love and with the busy mama in mind. Fully aware of how much support parents need, at Milky Life they remind mums to care for themselves, whilst having the right tools to make motherhood that bit easier. They offer a range of quality, trusted maternity, motherhood and baby brands.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
Having my beautiful daughter definitely ignited a new passion in me for all things motherhood. Like many mums, I had my share of challenges in my postpartum and breastfeeding journey, and at times felt very stressed and anxious about my abilities. It’s funny to think how many new mothers are feeling this exact way every moment of every day. Sometimes preparing for parenthood largely means having a long shopping list of what to buy for baby, when really, the new mother needs just as much preparation, love and care. With any venture I chose to take on, I knew I had to somehow be focused on motherhood and parenting.
I inherited Milky Life from a fellow like-minded mama. I stumbled on the opportunity and jumped at it immediately because it was so aligned to my passion. I wanted to continue the strong principles that the business already had – to support mothers through their journey in a sustainable and stylish way.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
Because Milky Life was already a running business, I could hit the ground running, so to speak. However, it was my first online business venture, and there was (and is) a lot of aspects of an online business that I needed to learn quick smart, from website design to marketing to social media. Couple that with learning how to balance a business with mum life, and it was absolutely overwhelming at times. The business already had a fantastic foundation in its mission and its products, but I was committed to refine and expand our offering and put my own little stamp on the business. To this day, we are still evolving, and hopefully improving our partnerships with mums every day.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
I wouldn’t say I have had one single big breakthrough in my time with the business – more several little breakthroughs and milestones that have boosted our growth or made life easier. I would say the most memorable would be the curation of our new gift packs, which I think are so beautiful but are also filled with practical solutions for mums.
