The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Manufacturing and freight delays have been challenging. Launching during Covid threw a few extra curve balls to a newbie at business too. Within 5 months, we were out of stock twice for 6 weeks at a time. Our subscription customers and retail customers were accounted for, but it was the longest wait ever! We opened the website for preorders during these times and although there was a downturn in revenue, we gratefully had orders and revenue coming through to keep things going. We’re now so much further ahead of ourselves to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
There are so many pros! In the start, when it’s all you, you get to put your touch on everything and it’s been so rewarding working on a brand and product I’m passionate about, and get to see it come alive. But one of the best parts is the flexibility of it around my life. Don’t get me wrong, I do huge hours and work late most nights, but I can be available and free for whatever I need to be.
There aren’t a lot of cons, but at this early stage, as it is only me wearing all the hats, I don’t have anyone within the Eco Cheeks headspace to bounce things off. Family and friends are great, but I’m looking forward to having a team to be able to nut out plans and decisions within the brand.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
The dream is to become a known and trusted household name, and we have more eco-wellness products in the works that will be launching mid to late year.
