New Zealand’s Original Play Couch: Imagine, Build, Create

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

It’s tough, but we make it work! Being a mum, business owner and psychology student has meant juggling so many balls at once. It has, however, been an amazing journey and it’s great that we can include our children in our ideas and have their feedback.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Launching a business through a global pandemic has been an extremely hard process, especially when we first started with imports. The rising costs of freight, as well as quality and the unknown about what really goes into our products, started to make us reconsider our options. We then began a huge investigation into having our products made and re-designed here – this wasn’t easy, picking fabrics and discussing foams. We wanted everything to be safe and great quality, but this comes at a cost here in New Zealand. We are so happy to have done it though, and wouldn’t turn back to China made.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

I think when it comes to running your own business, there is definitely a balance between the pros and cons. The pros are being in control of your brand and your ideas, and seeing your hard work come to life. The cons are having to be constantly switched on with work and business and the long hours of work.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

We hope to expand our business and hope to offer a more extensive range of modular furniture and add-ons for our brand. We think this is an exceptional product for brain development while creating childhood memories, so we plan to continue to grow our range.
