Ouch + Soothe: Bringing Calm + Care to Life’s First Aid Moments

The Drive: What challenges have you overcome

One of my biggest challenges has been overcoming self-doubt and fear. I was hesitant at first to share my idea or even tell people that I’d started a business. That’s slowly changing – I’ve begun opening up more, even telling my work colleagues! The encouragement I’ve received, and hearing people say “that’s such a great idea”, has really helped me believe in what I’m doing.

Another challenge has been learning everything that comes with running a business – marketing, websites, regulations – all of it was completely new to me. It’s been a steep learning curve and an incredibly empowering one.

And then there’s social media! It moves so fast, and honestly, I’m so aware that many feel there’s nothing particularly exciting about a first aid kit. Who wants to buy for a “just in case” moment? I’ve realised that being prepared is actually powerful and so important. While first aid might not feel exciting, it’s essential – and when you need it, you’re so grateful it’s there. That understanding keeps me motivated to keep sharing, learning and growing.

For Better or Worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business

The biggest pro is that it’s all mine! I love that what started as an idea has become something real – something I’ve built from scratch. I’ve worked hard to bring it all together and create a product I’m genuinely proud of. We use the kit all the time in our own family, so I know first-hand how practical and helpful it is. I also love learning – researching, experimenting and building something that I truly believe benefits others.

The harder parts are the less exciting bits – managing the finances, keeping track of stock and staying on top of admin. And of course, those moments of doubt still creep in: Will anyone want what I’m offering? But each time I push through that uncertainty, I remind myself why I started. Seeing others find value in Ouch + Soothe makes every challenge worth it.

Hopes and Dreams: What’s next?

I really want to keep building awareness of Ouch + Soothe and invite others to believe in what I’m offering. I’d love to expand the range with new kits – like a smaller version that fits easily in your pocket for park trips or dog walks. I’m also planning to create add-on bundles that can be bought alone or alongside the main kit, so families can personalise their first aid setup. Ideas include a Winter Wellness Bundle and a Baby Bundle – because little ones are so sensitive and deserve products designed just for them.

And, dreaming big, I’d love to one day create my own Ouch + Soothe product line, with each item clearly labelled for its purpose – so in a first aid moment, everything feels simple and intuitive.

Beyond products, I’m passionate about sharing good information on first aid care, as well as offering insight and care that goes beyond the physical – to support our emotional and mental wellbeing too. I’m raising my kids with empathy, connection and acceptance, and I want Ouch + Soothe to reflect that – offering support not just for cuts and scrapes, but for the emotional bumps along the way too. First aid for the body and the heart.
