The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
My biggest challenges have been: the ever-changing landscape for small businesses through a pandemic; and raising a newborn while running a business. Both required a lot of perseverance, seeking support from my village and remembering to take time for myself. Realising that I can’t do my very best if I am not in my very best shape and that means leaving some space and time for myself (without the “mum guilt”) is probably the biggest challenge that I’ve personally had to overcome so far.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The biggest pro for me is knowing that I’ve created and delivered happiness to someone through my business. If I could somehow be there to see everyone receive their keepsake gift box, I totally would just to capture their faces! I’ve also been able to meet and connect with some incredible suppliers and other amazing Australian small businesses and they have become some of my biggest supporters and closest friends. The cons would be that you put your heart and soul into your business, so when things move slow or go wrong, it’s hard not to take it all so personally. You definitely have to focus on those positives to get you through the little storms along the way.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
We are always working on new products and designs, so we have something to suit everyone. We’re also hoping to expand our delivery further abroad, so we can share in the celebrations of more bumps and welcoming bubs with our keepsake gift boxes.
