The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
This year, I’ve worked hard to shift my mindset around money, relationships and how I speak about myself and my business. I’ve battled limiting beliefs about not being good enough, talented enough or worthy of the rates I charge. I’ve also struggled with the notion that people don’t value my work or can’t afford photography. It’s easy to get caught in that negative narrative, especially when those around you share similar thoughts.
But I’ve realised that it’s essential to rewrite those beliefs. I’ve had to work through where they originated within me and shift my focus towards creating a version of myself that embodies success and confidence. It’s been a journey of self-discovery and growth, and I’m proud of where I am now.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The best part of running my own business is the flexibility. I’m able to be home with my kids, do the school run with my son, and spend mornings with my daughter. As she’ll soon be going to Montessori school a few days a week, I’ll have even more time with them in the afternoons, without the pressure of a traditional work schedule. And photographing on weekends is a welcome break from being “mom”, allowing me to recharge while doing what I love.
On the business side, the pros are meeting wonderful people, exploring new places, being outdoors and helping families feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. The icing on the cake is delivering photos and seeing the joy they bring to my clients.
But the cons come with the business side of things. Managing marketing, taxes and paperwork can be overwhelming, especially for a creative like me. My dad ran his own photography business, but he never taught me the ins and outs of the business side, and I sometimes feel like I’m still learning as I go.

Hopes and dreams: What next?
I’m always brainstorming new ways to expand my family photography brand. I’m currently planning mini sessions, collaborating with local businesses and considering event stalls to further grow my presence. I’m in the planning stages of these ideas, and I’m excited to see where they lead!
On a personal level, my dream is to build my business to the point where we can travel more as a family. We’re saving for our dream home, and once that’s a reality, I want my business to support our adventures.
I’d also love to have a dedicated studio space for newborn sessions and as a backup for rainy days or winter months. But for now, I’m taking things one step at a time, and I’m excited to see how the future unfolds!
