Providing New Mums with the Gift of Nourishment

They are emotional memories for us but there were equally quite comical situations we found ourselves in. A strong memory from that time that we won’t forget was, with Elle being heavily pregnant during that period and driving the van so that Daisy could drop the bundles (much more nimble then Elle at that point), the pressure on the bladder during those later months while driving was intense! All the cafes and restaurants became takeaway only during Covid and wouldn’t let anyone enter, even to use the bathroom. There were some very close calls during those months and such frustration at being in a situation where we were trying to get food to these new parents and for the life of us we couldn’t get in anywhere to use a bathroom!

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

There are so many learnings when starting a new business and there is a lot of assumed knowledge it seems. It took over 12 months to actually understand the full picture of what is required from an administration, bookkeeping and operational point of view. We are still learning more every day. In the early days, money was scarce, so we couldn’t just pay someone to come in and tell us where to find efficiencies in processes – we had to learn for ourselves. As mentioned above, finding the work-life balance when you are working for yourself is a really tough juggle and we praise anyone who has nailed it. There is always more to be done! The satisfaction and pure joy that you feel when you see a new mother’s teary eyes full of gratitude and messages of such deep thanks, usually while sharing a snippet of the current state of chaos or difficulty they are experiencing in the trenches at that point of their postpartum journey, is one of the greatest things we’ve felt. We are truly helping these families during a time of need and making a positive impact on their experience as a new mother. As it is our own business, we can quickly change and adapt to what we are hearing is needed by those who order from us, for themselves or loved ones.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

We would love to keep growing our business and be the ready-made meal choice for families across Australia. We feel like more and more people are beginning to understand why what they feed their families is so important from a nutritional and an environmental point of view. We want people to want to buy their meals from us because we source our ingredients from local suppliers and use organic produce wherever possible. The meat we use is from local farms that practise regenerative farming and that are leading the way in building ecosystem health and biodiversity. Our meals are frozen because they do not include any additives or preservatives – it’s just really good food using really good ingredients delivered to your home. We want to not just feed women during their postpartum period, but support them and their families throughout their lifetime journey. We are now offering toddler meals and plan to continue to grow our menu and sizing to provide a healthy, nourishing mealtime solution for the whole family as they grow.
