Somewhere Along the Way, Many Mothers Stopped Trusting Themselves

Despite the differences in culture, language and circumstance, I noticed something remarkable.

Mothers everywhere want the same thing. They want to feel safe, supported and they want to make good decisions for their babies. And they want someone to believe in them.

One of the hardest conversations I have with mothers often happens after the birth, not because something went wrong but because they tell me they stopped listening to themselves.

“My gut instinct was telling me something”. “I wanted more time”. “I didn’t feel comfortable with that decision”. “I knew something wasn’t right, but I trusted they knew better”.

Those conversations break my heart, not because interventions are always wrong, sometimes they are absolutely the right choice.

What hurts is when a mother feels she was never truly part of the decision, when she leaves an appointment feeling disempowered rather than informed and when she stops trusting herself.

Because confidence isn’t about having an intervention-free birth; confidence is knowing your voice matters, understanding your options, feeling informed enough to ask questions and knowing you have the right to make decisions involving your body and your baby.

Confidence is something that can be nurtured and grown stronger, and that belief became the foundation of the Confident Mother App.

I wanted to create the support I wish every mother had access to, no matter where she lives.

A place where women can learn about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and postpartum recovery.

A place where they can understand their changing bodies, hormones and emotions.

A place where they can access childbirth education, prenatal movement classes, relaxation and connection sessions, nutrition guidance, breastfeeding support, postnatal recovery resources and practical tools to help them prepare for both birth and motherhood.

But more than anything, I wanted to create a place that reminds mothers of something they may have forgotten: they are not broken, they do not need fixing, and that beneath the noise, the opinions and the overwhelm, there is wisdom, innate knowledge and instincts already within them.

Because somewhere along the way, many mothers stopped trusting themselves.

Perhaps the journey back to confidence begins by remembering their autonomy and what has always been there. Their wisdom, their instincts, their voice, their right to make informed decisions for themselves and their babies, and their deep knowing that they are far more capable than they have been led to believe.

Because when a mother feels supported and confident during pregnancy and birth, the ripple effects into her motherhood journey, and family, can last for generations.
