Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Planning, planning and more planning…and grandparents. We live in a multi-generational household so when business gets busy, we call for reinforcements…from the living room. I also am a firm believer in scheduling social media posts and advertising well in advance, setting and forgetting.
Also, Floss’s dad works away at sea a month at a time, so when he’s home for a month, this social media scheduling allows us to spend every spare second enjoying family time. Otherwise I’d be forever on my phone and not taking in these wonderful moments.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I cleverly decided to launched a product-based business in the midst of a Covid lockdown, so that had a huge impact on not only manufacturing but also shipping.
There was also intense pressure to stand out as different from the cloth nappy crowd.
Cracking the cloth nappy community nut was challenging: boy are they an informed bunch! They know what they want and what they don’t! We’ve managed to turn this into a big positive for us and I regularly draw on their knowledge of cloth nappies and use their feedback to shape future nappy releases.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I honestly can’t find any cons. I love owning Floss + Co and am so thankful to have this opportunity every day!
The biggest pros are that the flexibility is second to none and I get so much time to spend watching Floss grow and become the little legend she is.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
Newborn nappies and potty-training pants and the comfiest + cutest undies you’ve ever seen!
We will continue to refine our products and evolve as we progress through the different stages of parenting our wee Floss.
When Floss starts toilet training, we will research, plan, and formulate a product that yet again fills a gap in the market.
