Created by mum-of-two Daniele Clarke, Superpower Kids is a program that teaches children about values and how to express and apply them in healthy ways, empowering them with the confidence and skills to live these values in a positive manner. As a psychologist, she has a special interest in cognitive therapy and child developmental psychology and along with her husband, they have a shared interest in living a values-based life and exploring how they can use their respective backgrounds to support the positive development of children. Here, Daniele talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the inspiration behind Superpower Kids and their plans for the future.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
As a psychologist, my preferred areas of work are cognitive and child developmental psychology. As a mother of two young kids, I enjoyed exploring how I could utilise my professional background to assist my own children’s development. This interest expanded into the development of a range of social and emotional learning programs, which acted as a launchpad for my business.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
My first product was a social and emotional learning program, which I developed to assist my daughter to navigate performance anxiety. Through discussions with my daughter’s teacher and other parents, it became apparent that many other kids suffered similar issues and would also benefit from the program. This need inspired wider distribution of the program and the development of additional programs.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
Our programs were initially developed to scratch our own itch. We needed a program to assist our daughter in dealing with performance anxiety. After much research, we couldn’t find anything that fitted our purpose, so we developed our own, leveraging my background in psychology.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
We prioritise quality family time. There is simply no substitute for spending time together.
