The True Cost of Coffee: The Sustainable Choice

Currently, their carbon credits go towards a cookstove project in Ethiopia – one of the origins they get a lot of their beans from. In the areas where the coffee farmers live, cooking often takes place indoors on an open wood fire, which is very harmful to the health of mainly women and children. The use of wood is also a major cause of deforestation in the region. Thanks to the cookstove program, farmer families are provided with a Mirt and a Tikikil – efficient cookstoves that reduce wood consumption and significantly reduce indoor smoke development.
