Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Working from home definitely has its benefits but it also comes with some challenges. To ensure we maintain a healthy work/life balance we have dedicated days of work and hours. We try to resist staying on our phones and checking emails after these hours to be more present with our families. As we love our work and “job”, it’s difficult to turn off and pull ourselves away.
The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
There have been a lot of challenges along the way already, from being confident enough within our business to approach companies to trying to find suppliers and products that we and our customers would fall in love with. There are lots of products out there for pregnancy if you look hard for them. We found that we had to look down all sorts of avenues to find some suppliers for pregnancy items. Trying to get our business name out there and show people who we are is an ongoing challenge.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros would definitely be working your own days and hours and being genuinely passionate about our business as it is like our baby. Being business partners with your best friend and sister also benefit us as we know our strengths and weaknesses that we can work to. Emma is all about the numbers and works the accounts and business management side whereas Kelsea is more the social and website guru. We have also loved meeting so many businesswomen with amazing products and ideas that we never would have otherwise.
The cons would be the stress that comes with having a business and the amount of work it does take behind the scenes and not being able to switch off and leave work at work.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
We would love to be able to make this our full-time career and show our daughters our hard work ethic. To have Mama Box be a well-known pregnancy subscription across Australia and even worldwide and share our beautiful Australian-made products with the world would be amazing, and we are determined to get there.
