The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
The biggest challenge I have had to overcome is changing my mindset to that of a business owner.
I have worked in leadership roles previously but running and owning my own business has been challenging. Knowing when to jump into something or hold back has led to many nights of insomnia as I overthought what I should do.
Breaking into the market and building the HazeyBoo brand has also been challenging as marketing is a new area that I am still learning about, and I know it’s a process. I am currently enrolled in a business course that is allowing me to learn and grow as a business owner. It’s given me a lot of insight into what is needed and the processes I need to take before making decisions for the business. But it is also helping me to grow my confidence and helping me to overcome the self-doubt that I know many small business owners encounter in their journey.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Pros:
- The opportunity to bring my personal vision to life.
- The potential positive impact my products could have on a child, family, parent, teacher, or adult that is facing challenges they are struggling to overcome.
- The positive impact of having an environmentally and ethically friendly business in the industry.
Cons:
- Overcoming the self-doubt of being a small business owner.
- The time demands a small business requires.
- The risk both large and small that is required when operating a product business.
- The emotional impact you carry as you aim for success. Celebrating the high moments but then trying to maintain positivity in the low moments.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My vision for HazeyBoo is to grow into a brand that supports parents and teachers – and that they know our products can help them along their journey. It is my aim for HazeyBoo to be a trusted brand that brings people together as they work to overcome the challenges the world throws at them in fun and meaningful ways.
Life is a journey; business is a journey too. It is my aim that the HazeyBoo values will remain the same and through this, we are able to positively impact our customers and our local communities, while also growing as a business that is known for supporting our community.
It is my dream to provide children with support and encouragement as they learn and grow, while also aiming to help them form strong foundations for their future. We aim to do this by continuing to provide parents, families and teachers with the tools and materials to help the children in their care.
