How what your kids eat impacts their schoolwork

It’s that time of year again! The kids are back at school and they’re ready to start learning…or are they?  It’s important to make sure they’re getting a healthy, balanced diet so that they can be their best!

What kids eat can really make a difference to their concentration span and energy levels throughout the day.  So, what should they be eating?

First things first: breakfast. Always begin the day with a healthy breakfast to give kids energy to kick-start their morning. The best breakfasts are high in protein for maximum brain power – think eggs and milk – and include some lower-GI carbohydrates like wholegrain bread for energy.

Growing brains need a range of vitamins to help them develop. Including lots of colourful fruits and vegetables in your kids’ diets will make sure they get the vitamins they need.

To improve their concentration and memory power, Omega-3 is key! This fatty acid can be found in oily fish like salmon, as well as in walnuts, linseeds and flaxseeds.

And what not to eat? It’s actually pretty simple. Avoid processed foods, as well as pre-packaged snacks and treats – they can be loaded with sugar or fat. Instead, make sure the kids are eating plenty of whole foods so they can get the most out of school – and life!

If you do decide to bake or cook some yummy treats for your child’s lunchbox, you can avoid sugar by substituting it with Natvia sweetener or Natvia baking mix. To discover some great recipes for the kids, visit www.natvia.com.au
