Capturing Those Beautiful Moments: kadeklerk photography

Photography: kadeklerk photography

These days we’ve all got a camera in our pocket, but there is something extra special about professional photography. Putting in the time and effort to have a someone capture you and your family at those special moments is so worth it. Perhaps you want to honour your beautiful pregnant belly while you can, or forever be able to see your newborn’s face as it was in those early days, or your toddler’s radiant smile. Weddings, portraits, family shoots – Perth-based Kerry-Anne de Klerk from kadeklerk photography does it all, and she loves it! We spoke to Kerry-Anne about her photography business.

The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?

I love the feeling I get when I get inspired: butterflies in my tummy, the smile that won’t go away, the montage of ideas that run through my head and the genuine excitement of capturing a moment forever. Whether it’s a planned styled shoot or people in their natural environment.

Photography takes me to another place mentally. I guess it’s my happy place.

The Launch: How did you start out in the beginning?

Getting into business is something that happened very organically. I never thought I would be a photographer. It was initially a hobby to take images of my baby boy. I was that woman hiding behind the camera at social events! From there, friends asked me to take family photos, insisting they pay me and then I had a friend who wanted me to capture a local community event which meant I had to have an ABN. Presto! That was the beginning of kadeklerk photography.

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

One of my biggest breakthoughs so far is being recognized amongst peers and having one of my portraits shortlisted from 1600 entries and exhibited as part of the The Fremantle International Portrait Prize.
