The Prettiest, Handmade Baby Essentials

Baby Miffy

During her first pregnancy, Rebekah Miftode was disappointed with the selection of baby essentials available to her, finding them overpriced and not quite the look she was after for her new baby. This prompted her to create her own functionable and adorable everyday essentials, initially for herself, and then for friends and family, before launching Baby Miffy. Here Rebecca talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the inspiration behind Baby Miffy, how she balances work and family time, and the pros and cons of running her own business.

The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?

When I found out I was pregnant with my first beautiful baby, like any new mum, I started shopping. Unfortunately, I wasn’t too happy with the selection of baby essentials made available. They were either clashing with her wardrobe or not affordable. So, with this dilemma, it inspired me to create my own essentials that were super adorable and functional for every day.

The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?

I started out while I was pregnant, making a few products requested by my family and friends, and for my new baby. They had loved their handmade items and suggested I expand and open up a shop. I started my business in our small unit at the dinning table with materials and thread covering the kitchen floor.

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

The biggest breakthrough so far was when the small handful of happy customers shared their new products with social media, which brought a flood of orders in. I’d have to say that the best advertisement will always be word of mouth. It brings the most genuine and grateful customers.

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

Balancing work and family can be difficult at times but in the end, family will always be my priority no matter what. I use the time I have when the baby is down for a nap and it’s quiet, or on Saturdays when my husband is home, he’s always keen to help with the business.
