The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
Honestly, it has been my clients. Their satisfaction with MYSAS NZ LTD‘s services that I have delivered to them has been my greatest breakthrough. As I have said, my passion is to help people, even if it is only by sharing my knowledge and helping them grow by taking some of the background work off their hands to make it easier for them. I do more than just deliver a basic service; I assist my clients where and how I can by using all the development tools available to me.
I try and further my knowledge as much as I can to stay on top of things so I can assist my clients. I am proud to say I am a Certified Xero Partner and I am a Certified Xero Payroll Advisor. I also work with a vast network of professionals to ensure my clients get the back up and service they deserve at a price that does not break the bank.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
I make sure most of the time that I work my office hours and when the kids come home, I log off and then it’s family time. I must say some nights I do go back into the office to do some things that need to be done. Then to balance that out I will take half days during the week to do family life.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I have had to overcome a few challenges. Starting a new company, it is hard in the first few years as you need clients and to manage your bills and daily lifestyle. Budgeting has helped with this – setting mostly tight budgets and sticking to them.
Then there is the challenge of advertising to get new clients and to sell yourself, but this I must say I have been getting on top of and my clients are happy – I have received heaps of referrals this way.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros are that I get to work for myself and be my own boss, manage my own hours and get to spend more time with my kids, allowing me to see them and be part of their lives more. This has been great for my family.
The cons are the stress of a new venture, cashflow in the beginning, and some late hours to get things off the ground.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I hope to grow my business to the point where I can help other small and start-up businesses and employ people that need the flexibility around family life.
