The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I myself come from a Hair & Beauty background; I’ve been in the industry for 10 years and business is incredibly new to me. I have never done ANYTHING like this before.
In starting Mini M.E. Children’s Boutique, I have learnt so much. Setting up the website was one of my biggest challenges, I spent so many nights on YouTube learning, watching video after video, sometimes crying with frustration. But I got there. I still don’t know how but I did. We launched our website and I’ve had so many compliments from people. That is one that I am incredibly proud of. Everything you see within this business has been done by myself with absolutely zero prior knowledge. Everything you see is created and done with a lot of love and passion put into it
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
At times, running a business alongside children and other commitments can be such a challenge. It is definitely not like your average “9 to 5”. It’s 24/7 and sometimes ideas will interrupt your thoughts inconveniently, while you’re in the middle of something, and you’re scrambling for a notepad to write it down. It becomes almost like having another baby in a way, but when you’re doing something you love and feel passionate about, it is so rewarding.
An unexpected pro for me and the main thing that keeps bringing me back when times are tough is having such an amazing, supportive online community of mummas and other small business owners. It makes me so happy talking to other like-minded women, people whom I would never have come across if it wasn’t for Mini M.E.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
At the moment, Mini M.E. is my side business as I do work part time as well. However, I would like to work on growing Mini M.E. to a point that it could possibly be my full-time job. I would like to be able to spend more time on bringing back the weekly Baby & Kid-friendly Recipes that we were sharing earlier on in the year and even starting a recipe blog on our website.
We are also looking into introducing an Eco Bamboo Nappy subscription service to the website. At the moment, we are in the process of running samples, but the idea is to provide a service that families are able to receive these beautiful 100% bamboo nappies, delivered when they need it conveniently straight to their door.
