The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
There have absolutely been some challenges. Trying to start a business during the pandemic was a struggle. Trying to home school, navigate kids at home bored, lockdowns and isolations all while trying to build a business was something I hadn’t prepared myself for. But as a family we got through it!
Another challenge I had to overcome is myself. I am good at second guessing myself. For example, I sat on my label design for an entire year!! I just kept thinking it wasn’t ready, but a dear friend of mine pushed me over the line and made me hit send to the printers and finally it was done.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
There are so many pros to running your own business! Choosing your own hours, having the flexibility I need to care for my family, working around school events and being able to drop off and pick up the kids which is important to me. Also being able to work in that creative space, designing and creating things – I love it!
The con to running your own business I guess is the hard work that no one really sees behind the scenes. Countless hours of prepping for product launches, struggling with feelings of failure or disappointment if something doesn’t take off quite like you expected. Plus, it’s hard to leave things at work when your work is at home! I have had to learn to switch off so that I can be fully present when I’m with my family.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
For now, I am looking to expand our current line, and introduce a Men’s range and Teen range. I’m really excited to do that. I have heard lots of husbands are using our products and loving it which is amazing!! I am also looking into getting more stockists both nationally and internationally. Having my products in a physical store or even an online store would be a dream come true!
