The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Wow, so much. I have battled grief and depression following the loss of my mum and my main support system. I have been 100% responsible for raising my child and giving her the life she deserves. I have been working as a teacher since she was born so I have a massive responsibility at my workplace. I do markets by myself and that comes with its own challenges and logistics. I have also battled trying to get my business out there. The internet is flooded with beautiful things to buy for kids and babies. As I have no sales or business background, that has been the biggest challenge for Avie Designs.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros are that I get to be creative whenever I want and to work on and design new bundles for the gift boxes. I love the buzz of getting an order, especially the positive feedback I receive, and I enjoy selling face to face at markets
In terms of cons, it is difficult to make a profit and not having enough time to take the business to the level I want to can be tricky. It is a cutthroat world out there!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I want to take my business to a level where I am turning a profit from doing what I love. I also want to open a business running art, craft and sewing classes for children. I would love to do both of these things full time.
