The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
When my daughter (my second child) was a baby, my business took the back seat and had a big lull for a couple of years. I loved every moment of having two children but I didn’t have the extra energy to put into my business and it slowed right down as things do when we aren’t nourishing them. But, as I emerged from the baby/toddler bubble with a renewed sense of purpose, I was able to pick up where I left off and also pivot my business in a slightly different direction incorporating more much than my business had previously offered.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Sometimes it’s hard not to feel like I’m always at work; to be able to shut my brain off to the constant to do list is a challenge at times.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I’ve got some exciting things planned for 2025. Through my work in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy, I’ve become very passionate about proper, functional-breathing and jaw development and I’ll be launching some products that will be able to enhance nasal breathing using a combination of Chinese medicine and Orofacial Myology techniques. Mouth breathing is becoming a systemic problem among children (and adults) and it can lead to a multitude of health conditions and symptoms, but it can be relatively simple to change it and my Chinese medicine background gives me some unique insights into creating a more efficient treatment which I’m excited to be able to share. My hope is that more children can grow up with better breathing leading to better quality sleep, and optimal brain and jaw development. The beneficial effects of this, when implemented in childhood, will last a lifetime.
