The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
We were developing Funsquare during the heart of Covid in Victoria. There were significant lockdowns over a period of 9 months in 2020, which caused delays in launching our range. However, we knew it was important to get our product to customers ASAP as it is great to use indoors during times when it is difficult to get outside. We finally launched February in 2021!
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The satisfaction in helping others is fantastic. We get so much feedback about how much kids (and their parents) love their Funsquare and how it has helped with their creativity and social skills (playing together). We’ve also had comments from parents to say, “I can now sit down and have a cup of tea in peace”. That is the absolute best thing about having your own business – knowing you make a difference to people’s lives and that you created that.
The flip side, of course, is that you are always working. We have set times which are just for family to help balance but it’s always a struggle to switch off.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
We have lots of plans for Funsquare: new colours, new designs. We will continue to develop new products that fit our core beliefs. We want to design products that are multi use, fun, easy to clean and that will last. We can’t wait to show everyone our new designs!
