The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
For me personally I strive for quality over quantity, so products are often sold out. There is only so much one person can bake, package and ship in a week, on top of being a mum, wife, and having some time for myself, so trying to keep up with the demand and losing customers because at times I can’t can be challenging. Add in Covid-related delays with the courier and ever-increasing prices have hit Keto Smart Bakes hard, but we’ve tried to continue to pivot and make changes where possible to just keep going.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I love running Keto Smart Bakes, but as a consumer most have no idea what goes into running a small business. The cons are the hours you have to put in to be successful – it’s a lot of work.
I wear many hats: I’m not just a baker of keto products – I am a one-woman show, I’m the shipping, packaging, admin, social media, customer service and all other departments, and that, at times, can be a lot to manage.
The pros are creating something to be proud of, being able to make my hours that work for me, and not having to report to someone else.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
As 2022 moves forward, I hope to supply our products to more retail locations, making the wait shorter for people to get their products and to just continue to grow. There have been many requests for our products in Australia, so finding a way to make that happen and possibly expand to other parts of the world as well would be amazing.
