The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Moving to Newcastle after living overseas has been the biggest challenge. It meant starting from scratch and this has been a roller coaster ride of emotions. In the past, the greatest form of advertising was ‘referrals’. I believe there is nothing more powerful than word of mouth. However, having to make new connections, friends, support systems; mixed with that thing that happened in 2021 and 2022, put a big spanner in the works. Fast forward 6 years on, I feel like I’m home.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The greatest pro is making someone feel really good about themselves. Sharing that moment, documenting that experience or milestone. It’s priceless and for me, it never feels like work or a job. It’s one of the things that makes me feel alive.
The worst is not finding the right balance and being able to “switch off”. I’m forever thinking of new ideas or remembering things on my to-do list.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
The dream is to give back. I wish for the capacity to give generously and without limitations. I haven’t worked it out yet but it’s coming.
Next, I see underwater portrait photography making a comeback. I’m like a fish out of water and need some H20!
