Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
This is a tough one. My hubby and I are best friends so to be away from each other for any long period of time is hard for us, but he is such a staunch supporter of what I am doing and the results that I am advocating for. He knows this is my life path and it’s such a heart-centred space for me, that I feel like when we do get to spend our time together, I am in such a great head space and heart space and we just vibe. It’s really beautiful. We spend a lot of time gardening and planting out our home under permaculture principles and it is really grounding to do so. We spend a lot of time in the ocean too and in the bush when we can.
I also nanny most of the week and spend time with a really beautiful little girl. It is so cool getting to know her as she goes through developmental leaps and we are becoming very good friends. And I assist in Jo’s clinic too. There’s a lot going on, but it’s really cool and I love being in different places and being welcomed into people’s homes.
Self-care is really important to me and I pride myself on knowing when I need to take time for myself and making sure that I do. Spending time with my hubby and our beautiful fur babies and animals grounds me.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Fitting everything in! It is getting busier and busier for me and my little business and I have so much that I want to do. I have found out the hard way that a lot of what I do is service based, which I love, but that means that there is only one of me to do everything that I want to do, as well as run a household, spend time with my hubby, family and friends and taking time to achieve goals and do what I want to do outside of my work.
My business is growing and growing and I want to be able to service women and families in other ways also. My next challenge is to build an online shop and offer products to help and provide support in other ways too.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I have so many pros to my business. I am choosing the standard hours that I work in specific areas of my business. I am supported in my work by family and friends and other like-minded women who I am meeting along the way – that Village vibe is strong and it is so important! Babies! Oh! Definitely the babies are a pro. Supporting and holding space for women in birth is a phenomenal feeling. I am so passionate about advocating for women no matter how they want to birth and I am doing what I am passionate about, so what’s not to love!
I am definitely a creative and passionate person, I’m not numbers or business background centred – so that part is a learning curve for me. I guess the long hours would be considered a con by most, but when you are so happy, it doesn’t matter.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I have so much on the horizon! Online shop. Becoming a Reiki Master. I would like to learn massage for pregnancy and postpartum as well as fertility and womb centred focus. I would like to expand on my knowledge of Homeopathy and start uni. I would like to study Shamanism under Zora at Serpentine Moon. Births! My year is filling fast! I travel too, so getting out to beautiful places to experience and support women in birthing on Country and serene parts of our country is very exciting.
