Earth-Friendly, Sustainable Toys & Gifts for Children of All Ages

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Obviously Covid was a big challenge to start with, but it made me branch out into selling toys and gifts which I may not have done otherwise. Funding was non-existent so I had to finance everything myself which took longer, but in the long run means I can say I achieved it all by myself. The current cost of living crisis is obviously having an impact now, as eco-friendly items tend to cost slightly more, but I do try to keep the costs down as low as possible for customers, whilst ensuring the suppliers/makers still get what they need as well.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

As I am still in the first couple of years of trading, one of the biggest cons is building up a customer base and gaining trust. This takes a lot of time and requires a regular social media presence. Obviously there is also a lot of expense to begin with such as the website and advertising.

The pros are being able to fit my work around my family and not the other way round, helping other small businesses get their products noticed and seeing my branded characters start to be recognised locally

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I would love to build Peedie Pals to become an online retail platform that equals some of the mainstream retailers, and to help make shopping for eco-friendly toys and gifts quick and simple for customers.

I am hopeful that one day I will be able to get a small warehouse to store a wider range of items and be able to employ a small workforce to help build the business further. My ultimate dream is to make Peedie Pals something that my sons will be proud of.

Visit the Peedie Pals website to find out more and to browse their range of eco-friendly toys and gifts. You can also follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
