Educating from the Heart: Encouraging Connection Through Nature

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

My family are extremely supportive and helpful and understand that operating a business requires the extra yards to be put in. They also know that I am very passionate about what I do and like things to be done to a high expectation. I make sure that I communicate if there are times when something urgently needs to be focused on until completion, and I ensure that I take the time out to get away from it all where there is no phone reception on weekends.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Being in the Education sector, there are always numerous changes to adapt to which can be challenging. Aside from those and Covid-19, the biggest challenges for me have been learning new skills that relate to operating a business that I once used to want to run and hide from. However, I have faced my fears and overcome them and have new skills that I am proud of.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

I love the rewarding feeling of watching others embark on a new career and gain confidence so that they too are operating their own successful business working as a homebased Educator. I also love watching the learning and development of the children blossom as homebased care provides them with the security, confidence and attentiveness for them to succeed as learners. I guess you could say the flexibility of running your own business, however I tend to be very hands-on and available.

The cons – paperwork!! And then the pressure of the buck stops at you!

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I have lots of hopes and dreams. Firstly, to continue to operate a successful service, maintaining our reputation of the best homebased service in the Tasman region. Then next….watch this space. I have lots of ideas of being able to support and give-back to the community. Helping families and educating others. To grow the understanding of how amazing and rewarding working as a homebased Educator from home is and the opportunities that it provides, and to empower others to be successful.
